Jio had taken the country by storm last year, as it revolutionized and changed the face of the telecom industry by offering free calls and unlimited daily data to the user. Recently, another big announcement came from the telecom giant at the annual Reliance industries AGM that it will be launching its own phone, with the price being effectively zero. So how to buy Jio phone and what will be the Jio Phone price in India?

The customer will have to pay an upfront deposit of Rs. 1500, but it is refundable after three years. Jio phone users will be able to enjoy all the Reliance Jio services, such as free voice calling and SMS. It will also offer full access to all Jio apps, such as JioMusic and JioTV at Rs. 153/month. The plan is also set to offer unlimited amount of Internet data, capped at 500 MB/day.

Jio Phone Specifications

While the company went in details with the various features, not much of the Jio phone specifications were revealed. Being a feature phone, the device has a small 2.4-inch display with QVGA display, an alphanumeric keypad.

The device comes with a microSD card slot, rear camera, NFC, dual-SIM support and 4G VoLTE. The phone also features a torchlight, FM radio and Bluetooth.

Jio Phone Tariff and Plans

There will be two prepaid plans that the user can sign up to with their Jio phones. Both have a validity period of 28 days, and will include unlimited calls, ‘unlimited’ data and SMS. The plans available are for Rs. 153 and Rs. 309 respectively, with both offering similar features, but there’s one difference.

With the Rs. 309 plan, the user will be able to use Jio Phone-TV cable, which will allow them to mirror/stream their phone screen onto any TV screen. The Rs. 153 plan will be available with a 500MB/day FUP for high-speed internet.

There are also several small plans, as Ambani noticed that people do not wish to commit to a monthly data plan. Reliance Jio also has a couple of plans for such users, which will give them a shorter term access. Jio has introduced the Rs. 24 pack, which will allow Jio phone users to have ‘unlimited’ internet for two days, and the Rs. 54 pack, which will allow data usage for a week. It is important to note these are the plans announced exclusively for Jio Phone users and will not be available to other users.

Introduced as an “India ka smartphone”, the Jio phone will be available for “free”. Well, not literally, as you will have to pay a refundable amount of Rs. 1500 to get your hands on the phone. This sum is fully refundable and can be claimed only after three years of purchase.
